The course will introduce basic concepts in osteopathy and osteopathic evaluation then progress to osteopathy in the cranial field (OCF) –aka cranial osteopathy–, then introduce some foundational concepts of the Biodynamic model of OCF. It will involve presenting some of the work and philosophy of:
■ Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of Osteopathy;
■ William G Sutherland, DO, a student of Still’s who developed cranial concept;
■ Dr. James Jealous, DO, who took the work of Still and Sutherland a step further, and developed the biodynamic model.
The course will consist of both lecture and experiential lab. The lecture will lay the foundation for this work and the lab will be experiential. Participants of the course will receive information on basic concepts of osteopathy, Cranial osteopathy and a Biodynamic view of OCF. They will be offered the opportunity to differentiate between palpation and perception, between being efferent or active vs. being afferent and receptive. The students will be given the opportunity to differentiate the various effects of Primary Respiration associated with Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. The group will be introduced to a concept called Neutral – where the state of Neutral in our patients allows them to connect to the basic forces of health inside and outside so they can achieve a greater level of health.
